At lunchtime today I caught the most British of traditions – the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race. This one was taking place on Cathedral Green directly outside Wells Cathedral and consisted of two teams from a local firm competing in a relay race. Each team member had to toss the pancake three times and when they got to the end of their leg of the relay they had to remove the apron and pass that and the pan holding the pancake on to the next person. It caused some amusement to passers-by and judging by the amount of laughter coming from the participants, I think they enjoyed it too. It certainly lit up my lunchtime!
