Travel Theme – Metal

wpid-sculpturem_wm.jpg

Today’s photo montage is varying views of a sculpture called “The Formation of Poetry” and is a tribute to the life and works of Samuel Johnson. It can be found in the city of Lichfield in Staffordshire where Dr Johnson was born in 1709 and was sculpted by local artist Peter Walker.

Dr Johnson is most famous for his “A Dictionary of the English Language” published in 1755 although his dictionary was by no means the first. Fans of Black Adder will remember the episode in Black Adder the Third where Robbie Coltrane stars as Dr Johnson to hilarious consequences. If you don’t know the episode it’s well worth viewing and there are various clips to be found on YouTube.
